Artist's Statement Assessing the relationship between society and the natural world has presented me with material forming the basis of my work. In my painting I am analysing my subjective response to the aesthetic aspect of the natural environment; including aspects of human influence modifying the landscape and on other occasions painting what I see as nature's influence on man.I am currently looking at two perspectives: i) A close look. At about one metre. Pattern in nature features - often the inspiration for man-made consumer goods. ii) A distant view. At about half a mile. The coastal landscape including the architecture of public and private buildings as well as human presence. I am particularly interested in elements within the landscape that indicate idealistic beauty beside a lesser ideal.The painting process I adopt is to pour liquid paint onto the canvas and then paint into the medium whilst it dries, allowing some aspects of the image to continue its own journey as it runs wet on wet. The effect is organic.
