On the Rocks

From a series of drawings for the exhibition Hallsands Revisied. 'On the Rocks' shows a tangled cloud of net wafting past. Ghost nets are derelict fishing gear that has been lost, dumped or abandoned. The image is initially
benign and ethereal, floating gracefully past a rock. However, a more malign consequence
becomes apparent. A perpetual moving killing zone, they are ubiquitous in our oceans and a major
cause of plastic pollution.
The nets are hand-drawn in ink over ink and charcoal.
